GAMMA-RADIATION-INDUCED ATTENUATION OF LIGHT IN PURE-SILICA CORE OPTICAL FIBER IN LONG-WAVELENGTH REGION

چکیده

The dependences of the spectra radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) light in a pure-silica core (PSC) optical fiber (OF) during and after gamma-irradiation up to 590 kGy at dose rate 7.6 Gy/s near infrared range have been investigated. It was shown that starting with an absorbed ~100 kGy, RIA 1550 nm becomes larger than 1310 due increase long-wavelength (LWL) RIA. absorption band, maximum wavelength 1800 nm, responsible for LWL is fully defined first time. At wavelengths 14.1 23.3 dB/km, respectively. During 3.5 years annealing OF room temperature entire spectral 1100-1700 decreases by 40-50%.

Radiation Effect in Silica Optical Fiber Exposed to Intense Mixed Neutron–Gamma Radiation Field

We measured in situ the radiation-induced absorption of pure silica core fibers exposed to a fission nuclear reactor. We observed the growth of the 1.39m OH vibration band in polymer coated fiber. Three mechanisms are responsible for this effect: recoil protons, hydrogen diffusion, and a probable compaction effect. Based on this experiment, a fiber-optic neutron monitor prototype is proposed.

Spectral attenuation limits of silica hollow core negative curvature fiber.

In this paper we discuss the limits of attenuation of silica hollow core negative curvature fibers in the wavelength range from 800 nm up to 4.5 µm. Both numerical and experimental results are presented and show good agreement. A minimum attenuation of 24.4 dB/km was measured at around 2400 nm wavelength, while 85 dB/km was measured at 4000 nm.

Fast-neutron radiation effects in a silica-core optical fiber studied by a CCD-camera spectrometer.

A simple CCD-camera spectrometer was deployed at the Los Alamos Spallation Radiation Effects Facility to characterize fast-neutron irradiation effects in several silica-based optical fibers over the wavelength range ~ 450-1100 nm. The experimental arrangement allowed optical loss spectra to be developed from remotely recovered frame grabs at various times during irradiation without it being nec...

Optical spectroscopy of bismuth-doped pure silica fiber preform.

We report on the optical spectroscopy of monolithic fiber preform prepared from nanoporous bismuth-doped silica glass. The experiments reveal the existence of at least two different types of active centers and clearly demonstrate that the presence in the glass matrix of other dopant is not necessary to obtain the near-IR photoluminescence connected to Bismuth.

Behavior of Random Hole Optical Fibers under Gamma Ray Irradiation and Its Potential Use in Radiation Sensing Applications

Effects of radiation on sensing and data transmission components are of great interest in many applications including homeland security, nuclear power generation, and military. A new type of microstructured optical fiber (MOF) called the random hole optical fiber (RHOF) has been recently developed. The RHOFs can be made in many different forms by varying the core size and the size and extent of...
